What to Expect During Casting:

  1. Open Auditions: We welcome performers of all backgrounds and experience levels. Our auditions are open to anyone who feels called to share their talents, whether you're a seasoned performer or stepping onto the stage for the first time.

  2. Diverse Roles: Our productions feature a variety of roles that cater to different ages, abilities, and musical styles. We encourage everyone to audition, as we believe that each person brings something special to the table.

  3. Faith and Creativity: Our casting process is rooted in our mission to integrate faith and the arts. We look for performers who resonate with our values and are passionate about conveying meaningful messages through their art.

  4. Supportive Environment: We strive to create a nurturing atmosphere during auditions, where everyone feels comfortable to express themselves. Our team is here to support you, offering guidance and encouragement throughout the process.

  5. Community Connection: Beyond just casting for a show, we aim to build a community of artists who uplift and inspire one another. We believe that the relationships formed during this journey are just as important as the performances themselves.

  6. Callbacks and Casting Decisions: After auditions, we may hold callbacks to further explore the chemistry and fit of performers for specific roles. Our casting decisions are made with careful consideration, focusing on how each individual can contribute to the overall vision of the production.

At SJM CENTER STAGE INC., we are excited to see the incredible talent that our community has to offer. Whether you’re looking to shine on stage or support from the sidelines, we invite you to join us in this joyful celebration of faith, creativity, and connection.

We will be casting for multiple Characters. Many characters require vocal/musical talent.

Here are some common requirements you might encounter when preparing for an audition, especially in a faith-based program like SJM CENTER STAGE INC.:

  • Song Selection**: Prepare a short vocal piece, typically 16-32 bars, that showcases your vocal range and acting ability. Choose a song that resonates with the themes of faith and community, perhaps a contemporary Christian song or a classic musical number that aligns with the production's message.

  • Monologue**: Some auditions may require a short monologue (1-2 minutes) that highlights your acting skills. This could be a piece from a play or an original monologue that reflects your personal journey of faith or a character's transformation.

  • Dance Audition**: Be prepared for a dance component, especially if the production involves choreography. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes that allow for movement. You may be taught a short routine to perform in groups or individually.

  • Preparation and Rehearsal**: Familiarize yourself with the production's themes and characters. If possible, request "sides" for the role(s) you want and review the synopsis to familiarize yourself with the play.

  • Be Yourself**: Most importantly, bring your authentic self to the audition. The goal is to showcase your unique gifts and how they can contribute to the production and the community.

  • Remember, auditions are not just about landing a role; they are also about connecting with others who share your passion for the arts and faith. Embrace the experience, and let your light shine! Good luck! 🌟
